Thermoforming machine

The thermoforming machine forms a package—tray, blister, or pot—from a thermoplastic film, deposits the product inside, and then seals it with a top film, all in a single cycle. It performs complete form-fill-seal primary packaging. By integrating forming, filling, and sealing, it creates packaging tailored to the product and allows for modified atmosphere packaging or vacuum sealing, which extends shelf life.

Features

Operating principle

The bottom film is unrolled, heated, and then shaped in a mold using vacuum, blow molding, or piston molding to create the tray. After the product is loaded, a top film is sealed, either by simple heat sealing, modified atmosphere packaging (MAP), or skin sealing, before the packaging is cut and separated.

Integration

The thermoforming machine operates as a complete inline, with product loading, labeling, marking, and peripheral inspection. It differs from a tray sealer, which only seals pre-formed trays.

Options & configuration

Rigid or flexible films, single-material, complex, or eco-designed (bio-based, recyclable, compostable). Simple welding processes, MAP, or skin welding. Inside/outside cut, single or double line, multiple cavities, great depths, cleanable stainless steel construction.

Benefits

Custom-formed packaging, tailored to the product.
Airtightness and prolonged preservation thanks to MAP and skin.
Complete integration of forming, filling and sealing.
Versatility of materials, including eco-designed films.
High cadence in single or double line.
Possible reduction of plastic material.

FAQ.

The thermoforming machine forms the tray itself from a film, fills it, and then seals it. The tray sealer simply seals a film onto a pre-formed tray.
MAP replaces the air in the packaging with a protective gas mixture before sealing, which slows down product deterioration and extends the use-by date.
In skin packaging, the top film conforms to the shape of the product and the vacuum-sealed tray, like a second skin. It ensures better adhesion and prolonged preservation without gas.
Rigid film provides a sturdy tray, suitable for products displayed on shelves; flexible film is suitable for thinner and more economical packaging.
Yes. Thermoforming machines accept single-material, bio-based, recyclable or compostable films, depending on eco-design objectives.
