Centralize the control of packaging machines with the Singular Control solution
YASKAWA 's new Motion Control solution, called "Singular Control," allows you to manage all the traditional components and actuators found in a packaging machine for its movement: servomotors, drives, industrial robots, inputs/outputs, HMIs, etc. This is achieved through a single controller programmed in a single software environment.
The core of the solution is the MP3300iec controller, where all application programming is simplified by using MotionWorks IEC software with various programming languages compliant with the IEC 61131-3 standard. This includes structured text, sequential function diagrams (SFCs), ready-to-use PLCopen function blocks (CAM editor, fly cutting, delta robot, PackML), ladder logic, and vision integration with conveyor tracking. The YASKAWA controller is therefore particularly well-suited for automation in the food and beverage industry, as it can manage all the components found in packaging machines with up to 62 axes.
In other words, the advantage of the Singular Control solution is that, regardless of the mechanism, the function blocks used for motion programming are the same. This allows for the implementation of robotics with standard motion control without the need for a programming box or even a standard robotics programming language. Therefore, whether a machine includes standard motion axes, robotic equipment, or special mechanisms, the entire system can be programmed within a single software environment using the YASKAWA MP3300iec single controller. It is even possible to upgrade your machines with new mechanisms to add flexibility or speed without having to modify the application program or introduce new controllers into the system.

YASKAWA also presented its new MotoMINI industrial robot, the smallest in its range, ultra-compact, fast, and efficient. This new model combines very fast cycle speeds with excellent repeatability of 0.03 mm accuracy, a reach of 350 mm, and a payload of 500 g. This makes the MotoMINI ideal for handling or assembling small loads and products in production machines. Thanks to its compact design, it has a very small footprint. This robot can move components in three directions and around three axes of rotation, even in the most confined spaces. This freedom of movement facilitates complex handling operations and reduces the space requirements of a production plant, while increasing productivity. Weighing only 7 kg, this industrial robot is so small that, depending on the operating conditions or the part being processed, it can be used flexibly and application-specifically. Its installation on linear axes or on other means of extending the workstation also broadens the scope of application of the MotoMINI robot.
Also available to discover and test at the show is the MOTOMAN HC10 robot, a 6-axis robot with a 1200 mm working radius and a 10 kg payload. It can be used as a standard industrial robot or a collaborative robot. In addition to safety features, user-friendliness was a key consideration from the very beginning of the HC10's design process. The MOTOMAN HC10 provides the necessary safety in the event of direct contact with a food production operator, thanks to six-fold redundant force and torque control technology on each axis. This allows for flexible interaction between the robot and its environment. Therefore, depending on the risk assessment of the robotic application, the MOTOMAN HC10 can operate without any additional protective measures. This saves space in factories and, of course, also reduces associated costs.
These two robot models can be controlled using the new "Smart Pendant" portable programming unit, a tablet-style device. The lightest in its class at only 730 g, this unit is ergonomic and clearly laid out. The touchscreen allows for intuitive operation and smooth menu navigation. The 3D simulation on the portable programming unit's screen displays the robot arm's movement in real time and the safe operating limits. Its ease of use and compatibility with the rest of the YASKAWA MOTOMAN robot range make it an ideal control unit for use in Industry 4.0 environments.
